FOR TODAY… Tuesday, August 25, 2009
Outside my window… is it cooling off? OH PLEASE GOD! Let it be cooling off!!!!!
I am thinking… about resilience and hurts. We discussed some of this at church on Sunday right after having a family discussion on resilience! I was going to share here, but would that really be productive?
I am thankful… that of all the paths I could’ve chosen in life, I took the one that led to my darling! PTL!
From the learning rooms… still listening to the unabridged tapes of THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING we got from the library, and school starts in TWO WEEKS! Am I ready?
From the kitchen… we allow our kids to eat fresh fruit or vegetables if they get hungry between meals. Since we eat such an early dinner, we also allow an evening snack~but the kitchen closes at 7:00 PM. I would love your opinions~is our usual snack fine, or do they need a lean protein at this hour? and what would that be for our allergy boy? (No nuts or dairy or fish or eggs.)
I am wearing… paint clothes~all PINK!
I am creating… I finished a little pink set for Frances, though I cannot IMAGINE it fitting! Will she REALLY be that tiny? Even just for a day or two? Also a wool diaper cover, the Tickle Turdle Wrap~LOVE IT! Pics below on a background of a beautiful gift from a kind and generous Crochetville “elf”!!! (She also sent beautiful, flannel burp cloths~I’ve never had those before and am SO EXCITED! Of course Hazel snagged the pink one and turned it into a saddle to ride all the furniture….)
I am going… no plans for going….
I am reading… started HEALING THE WOUNDED SPIRIT but will not be finishing it. The ideas presented did not, IMO, line up with scripture and seemed a little New Age-y. I AM, however, enjoying this blog: The Fragrance of a Transformed Heart
I am hoping… to better pray for the lost. Add to that the same old, same old: To accomplish as much as I can!
I am hearing… crickets! I LOVE the sound of crickets! and cicadas!
Around the house… OH we are STILL painting inside and out. Hazel’s room and our room are still in disarray, and there is a pink wardrobe standing in the middle of our kitchen as well as drawers in various stages of being painted. I am overwhelmed by it at present and questioning if it will really get done?
One of my favorite things… is waking up after a cool night to find that I’m not so swollen and can see my feet! They really DO exist! WOOHOOO!
A few plans for the rest of the week: Had a close friend visit yesterday and another really fun friend visits this afternoon. I’m livin’ high on the hog this week~LOL!
Here is picture thought I am sharing…

ETA crochet links~so sorry I forgot! Here is the bunting, booties, and hat. So sorry~the Tickle Turdle Wrap can no longer be found~I am SO GLAD that I made a hard copy and put it in a page protector when I first saw it, KNOWING I would want to make it!!!!! For some reason I like a wrap that opens rather than a pull-up cover, so I don’t hafta completely undress the bottom half and slide baby’s go down her legs….

I’d like to hear your thoughts on resilience and hurts! And your new crochet items are lovely as always.
The only other protein I could think of would be eggs. Or maybe something soy-based? Or rice and beans? Sunflower seeds — do they count as nuts? The problem is that all of those, except the sunflower seeds, would need to be cooked. Is there such a thing as lean pepperoni or beef jerky? Probably too salty for an evening snack, though. Or a tuna packet?
*THANK YOU!* for reminding me, Marcy~he’s allergic to eggs too! LOL! I was wondering the same about sunflower seeds??? About hurts, I was going to share specific childhood hurts and thought better of it. As to other hurts, I am *trying* to walk in “pre-forgiveness” with continual offenders, as my Pastor calls it. (((((HUGS))))) sandi
My big boys needed lots of protein when they were in growth spurts. I gave them peanut butter toast mostly but that won’t work for you. How about a ham or turkey roll up? Roll a slice of ham or turkey around a quartered the long way pickle with a squirt of mustard if you like it. Chicken salad or tuna salad on crackers. Cook a little extra of whatever meat or bean dish he likes and set aside some for later. A smallish dish of bean dip or humus to dip veggies in? I’m not a fan of lots of soy for growing boys because of its plant estrogens.
OH AWESOME suggestions! *THANK YOU!* I’m not fully comfortable with soy either and am not sure he tolerates it well, so your ideas were GREAT! WOOHOOO! (((((HUGS))))) sandi
I’ve got my fingers crossed that September brings some cooler weather! I really am getting tired of this August heat, although that’s what we get for having a mild June maybe?
I’m so ready for fall!
I am working my way through “Lord, Heal My Hurts” by Kay Arthur. It is good if you are looking for a book and it is very much based on scripture.
Hey girl, baby is coming soon eh? Just passing by and thinking of you. We are having very hot weather too and then there would be sudden showers. It is sooo humid. Do visit my scratch web page to listen to the new songs. Trust that all is well with you. When is the due date? My love to all at home. God bless all of you.
Love,
Ai Boon
Sandi, It is cooling down in Minnesota way faster than I am ready for. Oh sure, the week or two that it was hot enough to have wished to turn on the AC that we aren’t turning on because we just can’t afford to were miserable, but it dropped into the 40’s last night and we are expecting our first frost next week… in the first week of September… before Labor Day. Brrr…
Hubby is in the backyard now building a “greenhouse” of sorts for our tomatoes. They are all still green on the vine and we don’t want to lose them.
